Tofu HealthBites
Have you discovered what a versatile tofu can be? It is the perfect base for making creamy sauces and dressings, such as our Easy Pizza Cheez Sauce. It is a great source of protein and makes a healthy alternative to meat dishes. Tofu also contains all the essential amino acids your body needs and is rich in vitamins and minerals, including calcium, manganese, iron, and vitamin A.
Tofu contains natural compounds called isoflavones, powerful antioxidants that minimize damage to your body (known as oxidative stress) caused by free radicals. This oxidative stress is associated with aging and many chronic diseases. Regularly eating tofu is also associated with lower cholesterol levels. Studies suggest this includes a reduction in low-density lipoprotein (LDL), the type often referred to as ‘bad’ cholesterol, as well as total cholesterol. Regular consumption of legumes, including tofu, is linked to a lower risk of heart disease; this is thought to be because they are a rich source of phytochemicals as well as fiber.
