Simply Good Tahini Dressing

If you’re into hummus, then you probably know about tahini. It’s a Middle Eastern spread made from ground-up sesame seeds and packed with antioxidant power. Its creaminess lends itself to many dishes around the world. You’ll find it in toasty stir-fries, in Greek salads, drizzled over Ethiopian pizzas, and much more.

I first discovered what a tasty salad dressing tahini could be while camping. I didn’t have access to my kitchen, but I had picked up some hummus for sandwiches. And I figured, maybe if I thinned it out with some water, it would be pourable and a tasty topping for a salad. Once I got back home, I decided to do a little more experimenting which led to this salad dressing.

Tahini HealthBites

Tahini is a powerhouse of nutrition, including phosphorous and manganese which can help your body build strong bones. It is also rich in antioxidants which can help your body fend off many diseases, including heart disease (studies have shown that it can lower cholesterol). Sesamin and sesamolin, in particular, are two antioxidants in sesame seeds linked to heart health. These two antioxidants have also been shown to reduce inflammation;  a study published in The International  Journal of Rheumatic Diseases showed how patients dealing with osteoarthritis in the knee experienced greater pain relief by eating the equivalent of two tablespoons of tahini daily. When eaten in moderation (because of its high-fat content), tahini can definitely be a healthy option for helping you to live well naturally.
